Dr. Jack Cottrell
Dr. Jack Cottrell graduated from the University of Toronto in 1975 and was the co-founder of a
group practice setup in the town of Port Perry the same year. Operating in Port Perry for over 30 years the operation has since grown to
include seven dentists. An active member of the Durham Dental Society, Ontario Dental Association,
Canadian Dental Association, and around the community Dr. Cottrell has contributed greatly to
the community and to the profession of dentistry.
Dr. Cottrell served as the chairman of the Scugog Library Building Committee, Town Hall "1873", and the Scugog Recreation
Committee, was a Ward Councillor on the Scugog Municipal Council, and has sponsored many
minor league sports teams and events.
Dr. Cottrell has also served as President of the Canadian Dental Association, the Ontario Dental Association and the Durham Dental
Society. He was a governor representing Ontario on the executive council of the Canadian Dental Association and has headed
many task forces which have improved the practice of dentistry in numerous ways.
Dr. Cottrell has been awarded many honours during his career. He is a fellow of the International College
of Dentists, the Academy of Dentistry International, and the Pierre Fauchard Society. Among the many
awards he has received are the Ontario Dental Association Service Award and the Bourassa Award.
Dr. Cottrell received the Barnabus Day Award for Distinguished Service during a special ceremony on May 2, 2008.
This award recognizes an ODA member for outstanding service in the dental profession for 20 years or more.
